Tips for PR Students

Join PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America) 

I'm on leadership for my chapter of PRSSA and i can't tell you how this club how help so much in Public Relations. I have meet to many people in PR and so much from this organization that they can't teach in the class room it's the hands on learning that I love. PRSSA is a MUST  for all PR majors.

Be Organized
I suggest getting a planner, it will be your new best friend. That way you can  to list your classes, PRSSA meetings, and coffee dates with friends. You learn time-management skills in college and this will be very helpful to you in the future.

Know Social Media
Social Media is a key way for employers to know you outside the office. They what to know that you will represent there company and brand well. This means cleaning up your profiles and creating an LinkedIn profile. 

Learn how to write a resume and cover letter

Visit your Career Center or pick up a copy of "All Work No Play" 

Professionalism 
Professionalism is not only knowing how to act in the classroom, but also at interview,networking events, conferences and etc. This is knowing how to dress and how so speak appropriately. You can check out tips on how to do this by clicking here.

Visit your Professor during there office hours 

Your professors are there to help you and they can be a great source of information. They can help you with an assignment you are struggling on or help you get that internship of your dreams. Go visit them they what to help. 

Networking
Meeting people is great and you do  a lot of that in college. Everyone is good at something and you never know if that person could hold the key to an opportunity for you. Never leave a rock unturned or a business card untaken. 

What Is PR?

What is PR?

When I started College as a freshman I know I wanted to go in Public Relations, but I didn't know what exactly it was. Even when family or friends would ask me " What is that?" I would say nothing, because I really didn't know what it was.

Now three years later, I have a better understanding of what PR is and what you can do with a degree in it. There a lot you can do in PR from event planning, social manger, publicist, media relations and your can work in crisis communication. These are just a few things you can do with a degree in Public Relations.

I personally what to go into event planning, editorial or sports. Unfortunately at my university they really don't offer classes in those field, they just offer that basic courses. My university also doesn't offer a social media class, which I think everyone should have a class in. 

Public Relations is so diversity and I love it I wouldn't change it for a thing. I love that you can do so many things in it.
